Are you going to watch Big Brother?

OK, I'll admit it. I'm a Big Brother fan. I've watched every series, even the very dull ones, and when the live stream was working I used to watch that too, much to Man of the House's disbelief. When the new series starts on Wednesday, I'll definitely be tuning in.

So I'll be sad to see it go. But I can see that maybe it had run its course.

There have been some very memorable housemates, though. Jade. Brian. Nadia. Nicky. Er… OK, maybe that's it.

    Like you, I have watched from the beginning, the good, the bad and the ugly. I found it a fascinating exercise in human nature and behaviour. Although in recent years its become more fast track to getting famous and making as much money as possible by doing the least amount of work for it. My all time favourite would have to be Jade Goody, You either hated or loved her, but I always thought she was really honest. What you saw was what you got. She had an amazing experience because of Big Brother and it was such a tragic end. Looking forward to Wednesday night, let’s hope there are some real characters in there to see it off with a real bang ! Karen xx

    No I definitely will not be. Think it ran its course years and years ago. Glued to the first of course – Nasty Nick, Anna, Craig the builder and Mel (see I remember all their names) and watched the year with Jade but then it just seemed to be horrible, shallow, vacuous people just thinking they were going to get a TV deal/presenting programme out of it or the producers engineering fights with disregard for that these were people’s lives. To be brutally honest, I think they have been very lucky not to get through all the years without a suicide. The way they manipulated Jade was awful. Okay, she got a career out of it but the way they kept the cameras rolling on some of the things she did and the shouts of ‘Pig’, Pig when she was in the house and the press she got, was human nature at its worst. She had to die for the public to like her again. Sorry – I know that’s not a popular view, but that’s my opinion. So no I won’t be! It started as as an interesting social experiment, ended terribly.

    I like most was glued to the first few BB’s but its lost its shine, far too many fame hungry contestants. Saying that I always watch the first one when they all go in, me and my best friend text while its going on and then ring in the breaks to discuss them (I know we’re sad) and I always watch the final. I used to love BBLB but its not the same since Dermot has gone. I do think its overrun its course.

    In recent years I’ve only dipped in at best. I agree with Deer Baby in that the types of people who have been cast have been fame-hungry. As with any long running series, in order to ‘keep it fresh’ they’ve resorted to increasingly shocking tactics and it has become deeply unpleasant at times. I’m obviously no longer the target audience and that’s fine by me. I do love Celebrity Big Brother though – as I said this morning, at least they can afford the psychiatric help…

    can’t say I have ever watched it. I am of an anxious disposition and watching people argue on TV makes me really stressed. Tis why I don’t watch eastenders too. I did however interview Helen, the Welsh lass from an early series for New Woman magazine. She was lovely and far FAR smarter than the persona she put across.

    I’ll definitely be tuning in – or at least making sure it’s on my sky +. Of course, Jade Goody was the star of the entire show but every year there’s someone or something that gets the nation – and me – gripped! During the Jade/Kate Lawler series in the summer of 2002 I was on maternity leave and watched it 24/7 literally. I even had the live stream on when I went to bed so I could see them in bed and wake up to the housemates in the morning. My husband thought I’d gone mad or that it was a weird pregnancy craving! True, some years have been better than others, but that’s the producers fault – there’s plenty of willing participants to choose from. Like you, I’ll be really sad to see the end of BB. What will our summers be full of now?

    My name is Jacqui, and I’m a Big Brother-aholic. Of course I’ll be watching this series – just like every other one before it. Sure, the contestants are all ridiculous narcissists, but they know what they signed up for, and it would be rude not to help them achieve their dream of shallow, short-lived fame. They’d better come up with something equally as trashy for next summer, or I’ll be at a complete loss of what to do with myself.

    I will be watching and mourning its passing. I have been a die hard fan since the beginning and, despite its faults, it is fascinating to watch groups of different people living and interacting together. I sometimes find that it is contrived mainly because Big Brother tries to pull so many stunts. Sometimes I wish that BB would just let the housemates get one with it as they did in the early series. My fave housemate is Brian from Series Two. A naturally funny likeable guy with a genuine good nature. RIP BB…..you will be missed Amanda

    I am with deer baby and battling on it has long ago run its course. As soon as people thought they could get fame & fortune out of it, it lost its reality facture. They started playing games and it was often the most boring people that ended up winning. I will probably dip in and out just to see what the last serious is like. It just seems to have lost it’s credibility. Shame because when it was good it was very very good.

    I love BB, but I do wish they’d stop putting so many of these young people who try SO hard to be outrageous, because underneath, they are usually very very dull. I’d like to see a cross section of ordinary people of all ages as the ordinary always turns out to be extraordinary.
